BAROCO'S
SOUTH WINDHAM COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE PROGRAM
The Community Experience Program strives to provide a wide variety of
outings including but not limited to, restaurants, coffee shops, shopping
malls, libraries, farms and parks. The focus of this program is to provide
opportunities for all consumers to participate in community activities,
which enhance personal competence and relationship building. There are
also a variety of activities and learning opportunities provided on site.
Assistance is provided in the areas of eating, hygiene,
habilitative movement and repositioning, communication and behavioral
support. Both the community outings and the on-site activities are
designed to promote independence in daily living skills.
The needs listed above are further detailed in a
"person-centered plan" for each consumer. With input from
Instructors, either the Program Director or the Assistant Director writes
these plans. The plans address needs in the areas of Communication,
Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreation and Leisure, Community
Integration and Behavior Management. We also have Consultants who help to
identify appropriate goals and objectives and provide staff with the
training necessary to carry out the objectives.
Person-Centered Plans are also developed in conjunction
with the person's home. We work to coordinate programs, in the two
settings, to ensure that the consumer can generalize his or her skills in
both environments. Quarterly progress summaries are shared with the team
and changes are made to meet the individual's needs as appropriate. We
maintain close relationships with families and guardians through annual
program surveys and telephone calls. We also assist many of our consumers
in writing letters to those who are involved in their lives. Baroco
maintains an open door policy in which visitors are always welcome with no
appointment necessary.
Our Windham Site also boasts 3 wheelchair accessible vans and a station wagon.
The people in our Community Experience Program takes full advantage of all vehicles and provides a variety of community and volunteer outings each
day.
