BAROCO'S LEDYARD COMMUNITY EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

The community experience aspect of our program is an important focus for many of our consumers.  Individuals typically have two to three outings a week.  We have two wheelchair accessible vans available for daily use.  On a rotating basis classrooms have the option of going out as a full room, with two instructors and six consumers.    Every participant in our program may have several opportunities to have consistent contact with community members and to be involved as active members of community life.  Many of our trips stem from functional purposes, such as shopping for classroom projects, going to the post office and getting needed items for the site.  We also enjoy recreational outings to several area parks throughout the summer and volunteer outings for our donations and projects.  While it is an ongoing challenge, natural relationships between a program participant and a community member sometimes develop.  We do our best to facilitate the success of these relationships.  These relationships seem valuable for everyone involved and the ultimate goal would be to break out of the structured meetings with the chance for growth into a true friendship with reciprocal visits and varied outings.
Our Ledyard Site also boasts 2 wheelchair accessible vans.  The people in our Community Experience Program takes full advantage of all vehicles and provides a variety of community and volunteer outings each day
